Jim says his motivation to be involved with the Restorative Justice Mediation Program is the opportunity to be part of a process that gives both the victim of a crime and the defendant a safe environment where the parties can freely discuss and resolve a myriad of issues that are not normally addressed in a conventional court proceeding. Through restorative justice, victims and defendants have a chance to see each other in a different light as a result of this voluntary mediation dialog. The parties that go through restorative justice mediation gain a greater understanding of the opposing person’s situation, and from this meaningful process the parties can find some level of resolution and peace that will empower them to move on with their lives in a more healthy and productive way.
